The First step towards a historic career

In the Lower School, students learn how to execute steps in ballet, read and write music, approach the basic techniques of dramatic presentation, and master elemental techniques of design, drawing, color, composition and statements in visual arts.

Ballet is difficult, and therefore can seem defeating to a young student if they try to do a technical movement before they are ready. When children are pushed too quickly ahead, they will suffer injuries in the short term, and debilitating ailments later in life. Therefore the muscles must be carefully trained, in the correct order. This is to ensure that each child develops the exact combination of strength, stretch, coordination and rhythm so that they are able to achieve the various steps.

The Lower School is divided into four levels, numbered sequentially. Each level has a specific goal in the development of the facility of the student (mind, body, psychology and emotions), and the technique of performing the various elements of each art form.

It is assumed that students will spend a minimum of two years at each level in the Lower School, thus taking an expected minimum of 8 years to graduate.
